We had hoped to stop by the mission in Taos to take some pictures, but it’s hard to spot on the way out of town, and by the time we saw it, it was too late to stop. We’ll get there next time.
As we were driving down Route 84, there were really dark clouds out on Jeff’s side of the Jeep. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen such dark clouds. What was odd is that there were also white puffy clouds near them, and in some places, the black clouds almost eclipsed the white ones and only the top edges showed. On my side of the Jeep, the sun was shining brightly and there were scattered white clouds. Over the course of about 20 miles, we saw at least seven rainbows, including some double ones.
There was a little thunder and lightning, which of course freaked Ruth out. We showed her the weather map on an app so she could see that the storm was moving back behind us.
It was about 7:45, so we decided to grab dinner at one of the small places on the Old Las Vegas Highway near our campground. But when we pulled into Bobcat Bites at 8:07 p.m., we learned that they close at 8:00 p.m. Ugh. Without much hope of finding anything else open near us, we went back to the KOA campground and I made hamburgers and hot dogs on the stove in the RV. Ruth was tired, so she just went to bed.
It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get to spend any time n Santa Fe while we were there, but we decided against staying one more night. We’ll get back here again sometime, but we’re looking forward to getting up to Colorado Springs and Cheyenne, Wyoming.
