We had a relatively uneventful drive from Santa Fe to Colorado Springs. The Raton Pass was our challenge for the day, and we made it. It’s only 7800 feet in elevation (tiny compared to the 11,000+ Eisenhower Pass on the way out), but any pass is rough on Jeff and the RV. The wind gusts didn't help at all, but they weren't too bad today. It's easier to spot them when there are trees or a well placed wind sock around. The tricky ones are when there's not trees to give you a clue the wind is about to knock you into the other lane. Not fun.
At the top of the Raton Pass, New Mexico thanked us for visiting and Colorado welcomed us back.
Here’s one funny thing we saw on the way – instead of going around a little butte, they blasted a path through it for the road. Just looked odd to us.
As we got more north in Colorado, the sagebrush faded away, and we saw more golden prairie. Jeff likes the prairie better, but I like both. The gold of the grassy prairie does look beautiful against the blue sky.
We checked into the Colorado Springs KOA campground, which is nice. Ruth and Henry were excited to see the miniature golf course. Since Ruth can't swim yet, she has declared that they will play mini golf every free moment they get.
