A Chilly Start to Independence Day

Wow, did it get cold last night!  It went down to the 50’s and at some point in the middle of the night, I got up to make sure the kids had their covers on.  Good thing I did, because Henry had kicked off his sleeping bag and only had a light quilt on him.
We are starting to adjust to the time zone change, because I slept until 7 this morning.  That’s still early, but it’s much better than 6.  And Jeff is sleeping past 4 a.m.
After I got up, I packed picnic lunch supplies and my camera equipment, and then made oatmeal with cinnamon and apples for breakfast.  Henry was up shortly after me, and was really cold.  He came down from his bed and got under a blanket on the pullout couch next to Ruth while the oatmeal cooked.
Ruth was the last one up.  She said she needs her beauty sleep.  Once everyone was fed, dressed and cleaned up, it was time to head to the park.  We wanted to go early to try to avoid some crowds and see the park under clear skies.
