Anyone for Buffalo?

Today we drove the Iron Mountain and Needles Highways around the Black Hills.  As part of that drive, we took a side road called the "Wildlife Loop" and it did not disappoint.  While we hadn't seen very many cars during our day trip, that sure changed about 8 miles into the loop.   We came upon a huge traffic jam and the reason for it was there there was a huge herd of buffalo walking up the highway. There must have been 200 of them and they all looked tough as nails and very healthy.  We were no more than 10 feet from some of them, and yes, we were always in the car since we're not daring enough to do otherwise.  A little later we came upon some wild burros that the kids were able to get out and actually pet and off in the distance there were a couple of wild horses too.   As we exited the loop, we came across a large field that had nothing but prairie dogs in it.  Hard to say how many there were but they were everywhere.  Needless to say, a worthwhile trip today.  Until next time, stay thirsty my friends.
